We’re delighted to announce our recent appointment by Coimisiún na Meán to coordinate and advise on Access Service user engagement.
This partnership will see M-CO working closely with Ireland’s media regulator to ensure that television and video-on-demand services are continuously and progressively becoming more accessible to people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired.
Our team will be facilitating the User Consultative Panels (UCPs), bringing together representatives with lived experience to provide crucial insights on access services like subtitling, Irish Sign Language, and audio description. We’ll be reaching out to previous panel members while also connecting with new voices to ensure diverse representation.
At M-CO, we believe that meaningful engagement with communities is at the heart of creating services that truly work for everyone, and we’re excited to get to work creating more inclusive media landscapes, that will benefit us all.
Over the next two years, we’ll be providing strategic guidance, facilitating workshops, conducting stakeholder engagement, and advising on best practices in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the European Accessibility Act.
We’re looking forward to collaborating with Coimisiún na Meán, access service users, and Disabled Persons Organisations to help shape media accessibility in Ireland for years to come.
